I have to agree with most of the choices in this video. This is a great little compilation and tribute to some of the greatest musicians of our time. Enjoy!

they were all awsome songs, but one that seems to be missing from the list, i think, is Thunderstruck by AC/DC
January 10th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
u definitely shouldve had YYZ by Rush
AND FREEBIRD OMFG but good choice with stairway to heaven
January 11th, 2008 at 1:24 am
that was chicago before greenday
January 11th, 2008 at 1:58 am
Some pretty good ones on there, but you forgot two great ones. Supernaut, by Black Sabbath, probably their greatest guitar riff. And Cinnamon Girl by Niel Young.
January 11th, 2008 at 2:13 am
What about Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam?
January 11th, 2008 at 3:20 am
Some good choices…
I take serious issue with Smashing Pumpkins and Marylin Manson being included in the list though, very mediocre riffs.

Honestly, I never liked Stairway to Heaven all that much. It’s #1 on my overrated songs list. BUT, I agree with about 10/20 of the choices.
January 11th, 2008 at 4:18 am
i can’t say that i fully agree with this list..i mean,c’mon marylin manson? and for god’s sake there is nothing from the riff machine Judas Priest in there..
January 11th, 2008 at 4:46 am
I know it’s all subjective but Green Day and Marilyn Manson need to be booted off the list and replaced with Boston - Smokin’ and Aerosmith - Dream On
January 11th, 2008 at 6:36 am
OMG where is black betty? and Freebird? and war pigs, oh and I dont know…..er ANY pink Floyd. Still good list.
January 11th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Stumbled on this and cant help think this really is more greatest Hooks then Riffs tbh….Still cool though.
January 11th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
@Everyone:
There are definitely a lot of good riffs that are missing from this video.
My personal gripe is that Could You Be Loved is not on there.
January 11th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Or what about How Soon is Now by the Smiths.
January 13th, 2008 at 4:28 am
wtf were is crazy train and stairway to heaven should not be number 1 its a good song but way overrated
January 13th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
How about the mother of all riffs, Johnny B. Goode? Personally I think that opening riff was much more important to rock than the entire discography of green day, Marylin manson, and the smashing pumpkins combined. It kinda sucks that greats like Buckethead (Jordan anyone?), Jethro Tull (Oh Aqualung!) and Edgar Winter (FRANKENSTEIN.) are neglected entirely! Heck, I’d even include something like Seven nation army by the white stripes ( Can’t stand them, but a terrific riff none the less) or even Hand of Doom by Black Sabbath.
The majority of the list I agree with, I just think the compiler of the list may have had a pretty restricted view of music.

Remove manson and Chili peppers. Add Black Betty by Ram Jam and long time by Boston.
January 14th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
Seriously, not a bad list, but only real problem I had was the fact that that no talent Kurt Cobain was #2.
January 15th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
This may possibly be the most cliché lists I am yet to see on the internet.
Stairway to Heaven is one of those songs where it’s reputation is “most overrated song” and what riff are we talking about?
Also, I do second those comments regarding 25 or 6 to 4 vs. Brain Stew. Not only did Chicago come first, and not only is 25 or 6 to 4 a better song, but also within the song (not just the intro) there are several good riffs.
Also, Smoke on the Water? What is this madness?
Although, one must take into account, what is “cool”?
I mean, some of these riffs could be registered as influential, I suppose, but does that qualify them as cool?
Why would “Smells like Teen Spirit” be on this list? The riff isn’t cool, it’s just aggravatingly overplayed!
Whoever wrote this list has a very one-track mind. The majority of this list is either Guitar Hero or Classic Rock.
They aren’t taking catchy rap licks or metal riffs into mind.
Not to say I’m really into rap or metal, but honestly
Acid Rain - Liquid Tension Experiment
All that song is is one kickass riff after another, or how about
I’m A Swing It - House of Pain
It’s catchy, fun to play, badass.
Ignorance and Closed-mindedness, thy name is “Top 20 Coolest Guitar Riffs”
January 16th, 2008 at 12:16 am
Layla at number 12? I mean, WTF?
January 17th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
Yea, way to not consider anything outside of mainstream music. I agree with some of those, but you would have been better off calling this “20 Best Classic Rock Riffs” and get rid of anything written before 1990. Also, for the love of GOD where is Black Betty? This list has failed.
January 17th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
WHERE THE HELL IS ”PAINT IT BLACK”??
January 19th, 2008 at 6:23 am
i definitely liked all the songs on the list, but it was seriously lacking in Metallica
How could the list not have Enter Sandman?
January 25th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
Reelin’ in the Years by Steely Dan should be on this list.
January 28th, 2008 at 5:14 pm
Thunderstruck by AC/DC, thats all i was thinking about from 15-2 sad that it isnt there but other then that it was good
January 28th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
So where is Hotel California by the Eagles? Or Life In the Fast Lane?
January 28th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
My meaningless contributions, in order:
1) Any song from Guitar Hero could make this list…
2) A good jazz guitarist creates a riff this good every other measure…
3) Was this list made from the back of a mail order CD?
4) How many of these would be on here without their bass and drums?
5) Don’t you all hate Stumblers who use their transience to comment senselessly and without responsibility?
6) Instead of best riffs, there should be a best riff-Guitarist list–e.g., any Rage Against the Machine song could/should be here…
February 18th, 2008 at 2:53 am
Where the Hell is any “SANTANA”??????? or “Free Byrd”???
Or “GREEN GRASS & HIGH TIDES FOREVER”???????
February 18th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
No Iron Maiden? Are you kidding me?
That list = weaksauce
February 22nd, 2008 at 8:02 am
nice list buddy i probably agree with about 15 of them
March 4th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
I would’ve had “96 Quite Bitter Beings” by CKY
and
“F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X.” by Fall of Troy
